Historic Night for Szoboszlai at Euro 2024 as Hungary Falls to Switzerland

Szoboszlai Makes History as Youngest Captain at Euro 2024

Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, at just 23 years, seven months, and 21 days old, made history as the youngest captain ever in the European Championship. Leading Hungary in their Group A opener at Euro 2024, Szoboszlai showcased his talent and leadership in a challenging match against Switzerland in Cologne.

The first half saw Switzerland dominate with goals from Kwadwo Duah and Michel Aebischer, leaving Hungary trailing by two. However, the Hungarian side, reinvigorated after the break, displayed significant improvement. A moment of brilliance from Szoboszlai came midway through the second half when his precise cross found Barnabas Varga, who headed it home to reduce the deficit.

Despite Hungary’s enhanced performance and Szoboszlai’s pivotal play, they were unable to find an equalizer. The match concluded with Switzerland securing a 3-1 victory, courtesy of Breel Embolo’s stoppage-time goal.

Hungary’s next challenge is set for Wednesday, where they will face the tournament hosts, Germany, in Stuttgart.
